This should come as no surprise to UFC fans. Dana white made it apparent that he didn’t enjoy Roy Nelson or his attitude since the time he was on TUF season 10. The hate from Dana likely stemmed from Roy using his over sized abdomen to suffocate Kimbo Slice on TUF, at a time when the UFC was trying to push Kimbo slice as a legitimate fighter. Roy also had no qualms about voicing his opinion that he was the best fighter in the division. There is also something to be said about Roy Nelson’s appearance. Seemingly Nelson has the ability to cut to Light Heavyweight but chooses to embrace his “Dad bod” and remain a gatekeeper at Heavyweight. Dana White’s disdain for Roy Nelson was likely the driver of Nelson leaving.
Whether Dana White or other UFC brass were fans of Roy Nelson is irrelevant at this point. Bellator signing Roy Nelson further solidifies Bellator as a legitimate competitor to the UFC Brand. This signing gets them a little closer to what is a very distant UFC, as far as who is the king of MMA promotions.
I for one look forward to watching Roy Nelson fight the top Bellator Heavyweights, including what will hopefully one day be a slugfest between him and Fedor.
