Dana White was right. Those are four words I never thought I would say. Well, that along with Demian Maia is exciting. When Dana White said the Women’s divisions would never exist in the UFC people got offended. Dana White was viewed as a sexist asshole when he said that. That was 2011. Fast forward 6 years and a Ronda Rousey later and we can see that Dana White lied. Well what else is new, of course Dana White lied. He lies about everything. In this case though, White probably regrets lying. Women’s MMA is dead, and I for one am not mad at that.
UFC 212’s co-main is a fight between Claudia Gadelha and Karolina Kowalkiewicz. The winner will likely be the next fighter to fight for the Women’s Strawweight title, which is likely why this is the co-main event of the evening. That should prove that Women’s MMA is alive and well in the UFC. NOT SO FAST! The fight hasn’t generated any buzz and both of these fighters have already lost to Joanna. We would assume that since both have the skills to match their beauty that they would be stars. I couldn’t disagree more.
The fact that Women’s MMA is now dead is all Ronda Rousey’s fault. It’s her fault for being so dominant, decent looking, and a complete bad ass. It’s her fault for making it look easy and sexy at the same time. It’s also her fault for losing. Not just losing, but losing in the fashion that she lost killed Women’s MMA. The woman that essentially created Women’s UFC is the same Woman that murdered it. So, while we should be grateful that Ronda came along, we should also be mad at her for getting her ass kicked a few times.
As a feminist I am disappointed that I have to write this article, but it is the right thing to do. Sorry to all of the women out there including my wife and daughters, but there is no venue that they can showcase their amazing MMA skills while getting awarded similar fame and money to what men get. RIP Women’s MMA, thanks for nothing Ronda!
