The UFC Title is Covered in Venom

There is a disease that has recently become associated with the UFC gold that immediately infects everyone that touches it. This disease clings onto fighters like Venom did onto Spiderman and completely changes once admirable, humble fighters into mega stars assholes. Brock Lesnar seemed to bring the disease over from the WWE when he took the Heavyweight crown and it began to spread. It wasn’t too long until the already outspoken Conor McGregor touched the belt and transformed the disease into something that now seems incurable for the champs. Every time I see a current champion in the media they amaze me in how foolish they act. When looking at the current UFC champions I wonder if anyone is immune.

Flyweight Champion: Demetrious Johnson

That hard working P4P #1 fighter in the world has never been the biggest draw but up until recently he was respectful of all opponents, turned down no fights, and acted as a true champion should. In a sudden turn of events DJ was infected after his last fight. Complaining about making 400K per fight and refusing to fight TJ Dillashaw who is likely the only person right now who could justify him earning more than that sum.

Infection Level: Moderate

Bantamweight Champion: Cody Garbarandt

I love Cody’s style of fighting and up until the Cruz fight I believed he was likely a soft spoken super talent. Although his talent is undeniable, his personality has proved to be that of the middle school bully. He attempts to fight anyone who argues with him from TJ Dillashaw to internet trolls. It is evident since capturing the crown Cody cannot control his emotions in the manner expected of a champion.

Infection Level: Terminal

Featherweight Champion: Max Holloway

Everyone loves Max, he has been a hard working, hard nosed guy throughout his career and battled back from adversity to become the champion no one envisioned coming. Much to my displeasure, he touched the belt and immediately started asking for more money and telling the media Conor McGregor would have to “beg to fight him”. Sorry to break it to you Max, if Conor wants your belt back, he’ll have it in no time.

Infection Level: Treatable

Lightweight Champion: Conor McGregor

Conor is probably the biggest reason this disease I speak of is spreading like wildfire. He is Magic Johnson but by some miracle can take the disease, live with it, and still be productive and appealing to the masses. Part of this may be because he has been the same guy since day one. Although he is as brash as they come, he never changed who he was in the slightest.

Infection Level: Immune

Welterweight Champion: Tyron Woodley

Tyron has followed suit with the others when reaching the pinnacle of the Welterweight Division. The symptoms have hit him very quickly and everything that comes out of his mouth seems to be completely delusional. He is coming off back to back lackluster performances against Stephen Thompson yet if you listened to him you would think he knocks out all comers in the first round.

Infection Level: Terminal

Middleweight Champion: Michael Bisping

Michael Bisping has been the same trash talking fighter since his career in the UFC started. Many people dislike Michael Bisping, but he is a man who has never dodged a fight in his career regardless of how dangerous the opponent is. Lately, one could argue he has been selective in his opponents but even if you have this opinion, it is hard to deny he hasn’t earned that right by now.

Infection Level: Immune

Light Heavyweight Champion: Daniel Cormier

Cormier’s transformation hurts me honestly. I remember the Daniel Cormier before the belt and more importantly before Jon Jones. Cormier was a humble guy with unlimited talent. Since he claimed gold in the absence of Jon Jones he is slowly getting very obnoxious with his actions. Daniel Cormier is not a shit talker, you can still see his true personality show through when he is commentating or co-hosting UFC shows on FS1. Unfortunately he feels the need to follow suit with the other jackasses holding belts and is turning into someone that is far less appealing than the guy I remember years back.

Infection Level: Moderate

Heavyweight Champion: Stipe Miocic

During Stipe Miocic’s amazing run to become UFC Champion he has been a blue collar guy from Cleveland that is impossible for the average fan not to respect. Since winning the belt, not a damn thing has changed. Stipe is as good of a guy as they come, and a model of what a champion should be. Although I do not love his talk of a boxing match with Anthony Joshua, I will take that method of gaining media exposure over acting like a fool. We need more champions like Stipe Miocic.

Infection Level: Immune

Hopefully the UFC sterilizes the belt before the last of the champions change who they are. Luckily I am a firm believer if you lose track of who you truly are as a person, you will lose the skills that got you there in the first place and soon become irrelevant.
