Welp, it’s Tuesday June 20th, 2017 and like any other day since the Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather (notice I put the “A side” first) super fight was announced, pro boxers and MMA fighters are “calling out” one and another. In this instance, it is the pound for pound best personality in the boxing world Adrien “The Problem” Broner. Notice I put “calling out” in quotations because this is in reality Adrien Broner just being Adrien Broner, but if there is a fight I would like to see happen it is the following provided by the top reporters in sports, TMZ.
Listen, I get it, this fight is not taking place but when Adrien Broner talks I listen. The man is pure gold every time he has a camera in front of him. The idea of him and Nate Diaz fighting is so much more interesting than Conor and Floyd. In reality, this is the fight people are imagining when they think about the super fight we are getting on August 26th. The sad reality of the matter is Floyd Mayweather is a far superior boxer to what Conor McGregor has any hopes of becoming in the next few months. The fight will not be close although I am sure to convince myself it will be by fight time. The trash talking will not live up to the hype either. McGregor is known for his pre fight antics which prey upon the insecurities of his opponents. Floyd “Money” Mayweather has no insecurities to exploit. For christ sakes, the man’s nickname is Money! Mayweather has a better record than McGregor in boxing and also comparing resumes in their respective sports. Floyd is worth over 100 Conor McGregor’s, likely far more. Lastly, the fight isn’t for a belt, so Conor has nothing to steal from Floyd like a child. None of McGregor’s comments will put the slightest chink in the children’s medium sized armor of Floyd “Money” Mayweather. The fight and lead up everyone dreams about is that of Adrien Broner vs. Nate Diaz.
These two are a match made in heaven. From a boxing perspective, Broner is far superior to Diaz even though Nate’s boxing is arguably the best in MMA. The interesting piece here is that Broner is known for disappointing the masses in big fights while Diaz is known for his IDGAF attitude and shocking the world (right Conor?). Add into this the fact that the two are must see television in every interview they conduct. They may share a total of 30 working brain cells combined. The pressers would be a comedic guilty pleasure similar to the hit MTV series “Yo Momma” on steroids. Hell, throw Wilmer Valderrama in to run the conferences too, I like my circuses with extra clowns.
Sadly, much like all my dreams in life, this will never happen. Just remember that everything you hope McGregor vs. Mayweather will be is in reality Adrien Broner vs. Nate Diaz.
