J-Man’s Quick Picks: UFC 214 Cormier vs. Jones 2

J-Man’s Quick Picks: UFC 214 Cormier vs. Jones 2

Today is a good day, but tomorrow is going to be a great day. You all know my stance on fight betting and fight predicting. If you take someone else’s advice on either of those I question your judgement. Well, that is unless that person has the history and track record of @MMAProfitcy of course.

This card is so epic that I actually did some real research when picking these fights. Instead of going with my heart and the fighter that I’m a bigger fan of, I’m actually going to try to use some of my brain to back this up (kidding, I used my superior fandom as a base for my picks).

Below are the fighters that are going to win their fights, I could give a shit less what Vegas has their odds at, I’m just telling you who’s going to win and how they are going to do it. Author’s Note: Predictions are made only for fights that I give a shit about, sorry Brian Ortega and Renato Moicano.

Aljamain Sterling vs. Renan Barao

The fact that people are writing Barao off baffles me. The guy is 35-4! On top of that, I think Aljamain is an overrated hype train. The downfall here is it is a catchweight fight which already puts a black eye on it for me. This was my prediction for FOTN, but I’m beginning to rethink that.

Prediction: Barao 2nd round TKO

Ricardo Lamas vs. Jason Knight

@MMAProfitcy did a heck of a job educating me on why Jason Knight will win this fight. Knight is on a 4 fight win streak and seemingly doesn’t mind getting punched in the face (I mean look at his face!). Lamas on the other hand has struggled to string wins together. With that said, Lamas has fought only the best of the best in his last 5 fights and I think that experience gets it done for him here.

Prediction: Lamas by split decision

Jimi Manuwa vs. Volkan Oezdemir

This being the first fight of the main card has already made my weekend. You usually have to wait for fighters of this caliber to fight until midnight! Both fighters have similar styles and strengths. The main difference here is just how much is at stake for Manuwa. The pressure of the moment and being very one dimensional is going to be too tough for Manuwa to overcome.

Prediction: Volkan Oezdemir 2nd round TKO

Robbie Lawler vs. Donald Cerrone

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. What else can be said? Man I hope this lives up to the expectations. No real point in providing any reasoning behind my prediction other than Lawler is tougher, stronger, and a bit more durable.

Prediction: Robbie Lawler 3rd round TKO

Cris Cyborg vs. Tonya Evinger

Ugh, hated it. Evinger doesn’t even have a picture on the UFC website. What a goofy fight. A wise man once said “the only loser in this fight is the fans”.

Prediction: Cyborg by TKO 47 second mark round 1.

Tyron Woodley vs. Demian Maia

This one is going to be hard to use my brain to predict. Maia is one of my favorite fighters. I love everything about him. Even his boring ass fight style is exciting to me. I’m not sure why, but I just love this man. Woodley on the other hand is boring and overrated. Woodley’s takedowns defended stat is 92% which will severely impact Maia’s strategy! I’m still predicting that Maia get’s the fight to the mat and hopefully strangles him.

Prediction: AND NEWWWWWWW…Maia by decision.

Jon Jones vs. Daniel Cormier

I find it a little bit amusing that people are actually predicting a DC win. There is no analysis, data, or past fights that can be used to back up a prediction of DC winning. Jon Jones doesn’t lose. Period. On top of that he’s already beaten Cormier in convincing fashion. I would be lying if I said I didn’t want DC to win, but it’s impossible for someone to predict that DC wins here. I’m just hoping for a great 5 round fight.

Prediction: AND NEWWWWW, BUT STILLL, or whatever. Jon Jones by Decision.

Fight of the Night: This card is so good that I can’t even predict the fight of the night. Normally the prediction would be between 1 or 2 fights. In this one there are about 6 fights that I could see being FOTN. My gut tells me that Cerrone and Lawler is just too obvious of a choice and it won’t possibly live up to the hype. I’m going with the main event between DC and Jones as the FOTN.
